Jakarta is a city well serviced by taxis, so there is no need (unless you are a family with kids), to rush into any decisions on buying or leasing a car.

There are many taxi companies operating in Jakarta. The company offering the most professional service is Blue Bird. Throughout Jakarta taxis are readily available, however in BSD it can vary according to location and time of day. Care should be taken in hailing a taxi on the road, as there are occasional reported incidence of theft (not Blue Bird).

Taxis can be ordered by phone with Blue Bird. They will record your phone number and home address. Next time when you call, you simply need to give your phone number and they will ask whether you want to be picked up form home address or other. This proves very helpful in not needing to give complex instructions over the phone about your address.

Usual time for booking/taxi arrival – 5-20 minutes.

In BSD there are taxi ranks at ITC Mall and Teraskota Mall/Santika Hotel.

Blue Bird also offers a premier taxi service – ‘Silver Bird’. This is usually a Mercedes Benz service. Cost is around 50% higher than Blue Bird.

A standard phone call (in English) when booking a taxi with Blue Bird goes like this –

·         Oh so you are Miss Jenny from ‘Puspita Loka L22’?

·         Do you want  Silver or Blue (taxi)?

·         Do you want to be picked up from Puspita Loka L22’, if not – where from

·         Where you going to

·         Taxi will be approximately 15 minutes
